I’m starting on a new journey! Back to design. Design? you might say… but I thought you were never, ever, ever going back to that godforsaken place. Never say never. My friend’s new firm has all the right ideas and values in place for me to settle back in. It might take some time for the gears to start turning again, let’s be honest, but I’m so excited to be challenged, to think deeply, to learn new things.
One of the best parts is that I will still be part-time, with plenty of time to do all the life stuff AND writing. I’ve been on a writing hiatus lately and I wonder if it is because I’ve felt like I’ve just been drifting. Today, I wrote something vaguely decent for the first time in a while. I mean, depressing as fuck but decent.
I don’t think I will be published anywhere else this year, which, I’ll be honest, makes me sad but I’m getting over it. Lit mags haven’t given me too much love lately. A lot of the ones I’ve applied to have really left me out to dry this year, without so much as a proper rejection. On the other hand, things I have achieved so far this year include
Beta read a full-length memoir manuscript
Attended probably five Craft Talks webinars
Wrote most Fridays with Jonathan Neely’s writing group (currently on hiatus)
Meeting monthly or so with my writing group of 2+ years
Compiled and submitted a chapbook of my short pieces
Consistently/ish wrote a substack
On to fall, my favorite season. Sweaters, crunchy leaves, a familiar nip in the air, skies so painfully blue I have to close my eyes. -S
