It is taking every ounce of my willpower to not let the fascists win. They have my attention more than I would like to admit, running circles in my brain, and I hate it. I am thankful for Yellow Arrow Journal and our wonderful, talented contributors for their submissions that have helped me forget—for just a moment—what fresh fucking hell this country is going through.
In this moment, a time of such chaos and trepidation, it’s been a joy to sit quietly with a new poem or a moving prose piece. Not working or producing. Not spending money. Not wincing at my twice post-partum body. Not ravaging the endless scroll of social media. Just losing myself in something new.
UNFURL comes out May 20!
Amazing news. My story, “The House Always Wins” has been accepted to be published—again! It will be part of EastOver Press’s An Anthology of Rural Stories by Writers of Color, 2025. [For reference, here’s the 2024 anthology]. The editor is Deesha Philya, the author of The Secret Lives of Church Ladies. I am so excited to have my piece included in this collection.
I recently submitted a short story to a Pen Parentis contest. “Killer Koaster” was so much fun to write. The idea for the dystopian plot came from two things, one I’ve been thinking about for a long time (a euthanasia roller coaster), and the other I’ve really only recently been considering (moving to Canada). Obviously, it’s a winning combination.
Free Palestine. Stay safe.
Congratulations!! 👏🏽
