I have a short CNF piece coming out in Rappahannock Review, The University of Mary Washington’s literary journal, in December! THRILLED.
Lately I’ve been working on a short (fiction) coming of age story. It’s one I started years ago. Something made me pick it up a few weeks ago and futz around with it. I have about 2000 words now, and it’s starting to round out. Current working title is “Nobody’s Daughter”.
Even though the events in the story are made up, it is still very personal to me and to the transracial adoptee (TRA) community. Check out this NPR article from August which inspired me as well: Southwest employee accused white mom of trafficking her Black daughter, lawsuit says.
I recently picked up Sarah Audsley’s beautiful book of poetry, Landlock X. I also purchased one of her broadsides and she was kind enough to send a personalized note with it. I finally, I pre-ordered another poetry book, Black Pastoral, by Ariana Benson, which I have been looking forward to since I read her poem in Paranoid Tree.
Next week, I am being interviewed for Jennifer Dyan Ghoston’s podcast, Once Upon a Time… in Adopteeland. She’s one of the moderators for Adoptee Voices and is truly an authentically lovely person. I’m looking forward to chatting with her.
What else? I started work at MICHE.studio last week, and it’s going great. I’m SO happy to be part of my friend Michelle’s company. Follow us everywhere!
Finally, I’m deep into Reservation Dogs and loving it (Tommy Pico is one of the writers?!). Happy fall.
